About Michael Gervais
Michael Gervais - Biography
Dr. Michael Gervais is a high-performance psychologist who trains athletes, teams, and executives in mindset, resilience, and performance practices to thrive under pressure. He is the host of the Finding Mastery podcast, author of The First Rule of Mastery, and founder/co-founder of ventures that deliver mindset training to organizations and elite performers.
Dr. Michael Gervais trained as an applied sport and performance psychologist and has spent over two decades working with elite performers across sports, music, and business, developing practical frameworks for mental skills and high-stakes performance. His work emphasizes mindset practices, resilience, and the psychology of mastery for individuals and teams operating under pressure. Early in his career, Gervais completed graduate studies and research in applied sport psychology; his profiles note doctoral-level training (PhD) and mentorship under established figures in applied sport psychology while completing his doctorate and early work in the field. He later translated academic and applied insights into coaching programs, speaking, and media designed to scale high-performance mindset training beyond one-on-one consulting. Professionally, he has worked with teams and organizations at the highest levels — including the Seattle Seahawks and multiple Olympic teams — and with world-class athletes, record holders, artists, and Fortune 50 executives, applying performance psychology in sport and business contexts. Gervais co-founded Compete to Create (a digital training business) and has partnered with corporate clients such as Microsoft, AT&T, and Amazon to deliver mindset and culture work at scale. In addition to consulting, Gervais created the Finding Mastery podcast to explore the psychology of extraordinary performers, authored the national bestseller The First Rule of Mastery, and serves as a public speaker and educator who brings applied performance tools to audiences through keynotes, online courses, and media collaborations.
